Kelo ‘Countitup’ is an independent artist from Mississippi who has a passion for the music world. He started his music career after losing loved ones to gun violence and cancer. Kelo got bit by the music bug by the age of ten where he began creating music. It wasn’t before long that him and his brother invested in a studio where he created his first three series underground mix tape. His new single ‘I Needa Bag’ is based off of struggles and his rise to success.
TRGB MEDIA: I WAS READING YOUR BIO AND SAW THAT YOU STARTED YOUR MUSIC CAREER AFTER LOSING LOVED ONES TO GUN VIOLENCE AND CANCER.
KELO: When I was six, my uncle got murdered by his fiancé. It’s crazy because every time I see them they are smiling and in love. You don’t know what goes on behind closed doors. Me and my little brother used to play on this teddy bear that my grandma got us for Christmas. It was a hip hop teddy bear and when you squeeze it, it records up to 30 seconds. We would go back in forth playing rapping not thinking what was going to come out behind all of it.
TRGB MEDIA: HOW LONG HAVE YOU BEEN IN THIS MUSIC INDUSTRY?
KELO: I have been recording music professionally for twelve years. But when it comes down to major platforms, this is my first year. I’m a newbie when it comes down to the world-wide.
TRGB MEDIA: WITH YOUR NEW SINGLE, ‘I NEEDA BAG,’ WILL THAT BE APART OF AN EP OR ALBUM?
KELO:I just can’t talk too much about what I’m going to put on the EP because I haven’t really set a title for it yet. I want to go hard and give them all new music; like when I drop my EP, I don’t want nothing old on it.
TRGB MEDIA: DO YOU THINK THE MUSIC IN TODAY’S GENERATION IS GETTING BETTER OR WORSE AS FAR AS LYRICS, SOUNDS AND BEATS?
KELO: I like the new vibe, but I’m stuck on old school. Some old school just depends on the artist. I can listen to 2-PAC all day and Snoop Dogg. The wave wasn’t the trend back then. I even listen to blues and gospel; I’m all over the place.
TRGB MEDIA: WHAT IS THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN YOUR MUSIC AND OTHERS?
KELO:When you get through listening to my music, it’s all positive vibes. Majority of my music is motivation.
TRGB MEDIA: AS FAR AS DEFINING MUSIC, WHAT DOES MUSIC MEAN TO YOU?
KELO:Music means everything. Music helped me through a lot of stuff. I don’t know how I got through a lot of stuff without music. It is like air, you got to have it!
TRGB MEDIA: WHAT WAS THE INSPIRATION BEHIND ‘I NEEDA BAG’?
KELO:Man the song speaks for itself. When the music started getting professional and real things started going on, and real opportunities started opening up, like a lot of financial problems starts hitting. That’s definitely my motivation. I started perfecting my craft and pushing my brand. I sold three tracks back to back less than two weeks.
TRGB MEDIA: WHAT ARE SOME OF THE CHALLENGES YOU HAVE FACED SO FAR?
KELO: Number one, instrumental. You don’t want to know what it costs to get the instrumental rights, putting the right studio to go to and making sure you got a good engineer; you need a good engineer and whoever you got promoting your music, make sure they are legit because there are a lot of scams going around. You don’t want to loose money as an independent artist.
TRGB MEDIA: WHAT ARE SOME OF YOUR EXPECTATIONS FOR 2019?
KELO: I expect to do at least two features with a celebrity; somebody in the industry. I plan to have my own tour going on, my EP dropping at the end of the year, that’s going to go crazy, I’m going to have a celebrity on that and I expect to go overseas by the end of the year.
TRGB MEDIA: ARE YOU PLANNING ON DOING ANY EVENTS WHEN YOUR PROJECT DROPS IN MISSISSIPPI?
KELO: I plan on doing a tour, but I don’t have a date yet. Also I will be doing a release party real soon.
TRGB MEDIA: WHAT’S NEXT FOR KELO?
KELO: First I’m dropping my video, ‘I Needa Bag,’ I got this new single called ‘Shot’ It has a little thug title of the song, but that’s not the concept. The concept of the song is you miss all the shots you don’t take.

TRGB MEDIA: TELL US HOW YOU STARTED OUT WITH DISNEY
STEFON4U: Disney they do auditions once a year, a real one–unless you have an agent in LA. They do a big audition once a year and it’s always at a different place. They don’t even give you a real head start, they just let you know three days before. Most of the Disney auditions are personality-based. Auditions already starts when you first walk in. I’m pretty goofy most of the time so I was just being a goof-ball. I didn’t know how to act before Disney–so that’s how basically I got in the door.
TRGB MEDIA: HOW DID YOUR OPPORTUNITY WITH BEING IN THE MOVIE ‘ALL EYEZ ON ME’ COME ABOUT?
STEFON4U: That was the biggest blessing in the sky for me. Getting that Puffy role took me out of Disney completely. Getting that role was an accident because I originally was suppose to be an extra. I showed up with my boy , he was going to be in a Death Row east scene. I have real curly hair and I was just making fun of whoever was going to play Diddy. I started doing Diddy voices, then they called me over, I thought I was in trouble or something. They asked me if I had any experience acting and I told them kinda. Next thing I knew, I was standing beside the other guy that was suppose to play Diddy. They were looking for the old Puffy from back in the day instead of the Diddy now, so I guess I resembled the old Puffy.
TRGB MEDIA: AFTER ‘ALL EYEZ ON ME,’ DID YOU HAVE MORE OPPORTUNITIES TO DO FILM?
STEFON4U: Yes, I ended up joining a television series called ‘City of War’ where Kodak Black is the executive producer. I guess he is trying to get his Tyler Perry on LOL. I also been jumping into a lot of videos as well. I’ve been in the City Girls videos and others. I was in a short film series called ‘Love You like That,’ I played an abusive boyfriend that had a very secret life, then his girl finds out and I get shot in that one. Also I’m writing a television show actually working with my brother Lil’Zane with that one. It’s kind of like a spin off from my favorite movie ‘How to be a Playa’ We’re kind of taking back 25 years later. It’s definitely a funny script called “Hard to be a Playa.’
TRGB MEDIA: NOW THAT YOU HAVE GOTTEN YOUR BIG BREAK STARTING WITH DISNEY AND YOUR ROLE AS DIDDY IN ‘ALL EYEZ ON ME,’ WRITING YOUR OWN TV SCRIPT AND WORKING WITH KODAK BLACK IN ‘CITY OF WAR,’ TELL US A LITTLE BIT ABOUT YOUR MUSIC BACKGROUND
STEFON4U: I kind of been doing that since I was a kid. But it really didn’t really hit until I was in Florida and I met this guy named Static Major. I started hanging out with him just picking up traits to how to write songs. Also hanging out with Pretty Ricky, that’s how I learned how to do my own stuff. I also co-wrote some of their record they did in Miami because I know their sound. So I decided to work on my own project to see how it would do and it’s doing really good right now.
TRGB MEDIA: TELL US ABOUT YOUR ALBUM ‘BAE’
STEFON4U: I put ‘Bae’ out as an EP first. It was doing really well but I had other songs that I did for the album that I didn’t put out. So after two months I made a deluxe edition. I added some features that wasn’t on the last one, that’s how Yung Joc got on.
TRGB MEDIA: WHAT WAS THE THEME/INSPIRATION OF YOUR ALBUM?
STEFON4U: It all started out with the EP. It was about a relationship I was going through; I kind of just told it from front to back. From the good times until the time that we fell apart. I was kind of upset and wrote more attacking-level lyrics; that was my moment of how I felt. I had her number still saved to my phone with a blank and the word ‘BAE’ so I just dropped her name and called it ‘Bae’ I started the album being mad and sad then at the end all good.
TRGB MEDIA: WHAT’S NEXT FOR YOU?
STEFON4U: Besides getting these videos out, I think the next move for me is getting out ‘The Lavish Savage,’ I’ve had some records I’ve tested in clubs that has been doing really well.
TRGB MEDIA: HOW CAN PEOPLE REACH OUT TO YOU AND CONNECT WITH YOU ON SOCIAL MEDIA?
STEFON4U: They can reach out to me on Sound Cloud, YouTube, Instagram, Twitter at Stefon4u.

“You can’t let other people’s insecurities become your insecurities.”
TRGB MEDIA: What made you want to get into the music industry? Any motivation behind it?
YQ DREAMS: Well I never really looked at it as getting into the music industry. I just gravitated towards a coping method and it was natural like that; it just took off. Also, I had to stay committed to it.
TRGB MEDIA: Ok, would you say it was like a gift or a passion?
YQ DREAMS: Oh yes, 100 percent! I believe I was given this voice for a reason. It was given to me to make a change in the world.
TRGB MEDIA: When did Year music career took off?
YQ DREAMS: It depends. I don’t really see my music career as taking off. So hopefully this year, I can accomplish all that I want to accomplish. At least start the blue prints. This will be my real rookie year, some real serious business.
TRGB MEDIA: What are some of your favorite music idols?
YQ DREAMS: I would definitely say Nas, Big Sean, Kendrick Dagore. I really like people that portray different visions through their music and to keep the listeners engaged as oppose to talking. So, I would say story-telling rappers are like top-of-the-top for me.
TRGB MEDIA: Through your music are you telling a story? Is it based on a theme?
YQ DREAMS: The thing about my music is I usually create when I’m in distress or facing adversities so everything you hear in my music will always be authentic and genuine. A lot of people respect me because they know if I don’t do it, I won’t portray that I do it. I stand behind what I do and the life that I live and my lyrics back that up.
“I do have to battle depression; a lot of my old music is about me going through depression. Thankfully I am in a much better state. But there is a lot of hardships in the music industry and I don’t think people realize that.”
TRGB MEDIA: Do you have somebody co-writing your songs with you or do you write your own lyrics?
YQ DREAMS: I 100 % write my own lyrics. I believe it would be impossible to call myself a creator or an artist if my work wasn’t mine; or if somebody had to create it for me. It just wouldn’t feel right. I feel like that’s a special part of the journey that has to be embraced to see something come from scratch. So yes, I do write all my lyrics and always will.
TRBG MEDIA: I want to talk about your new single ‘Could Be’ that was released last year November. So basically, tell us about that new single.
YQ DREAMS: Well basically ‘Could Be’ is about me going through hard times and trying to figure out who I could be. It’s basically like a talk within myself. If you realized, the first verse is like a song and the second verse is way more personal and my tone switches. It’s like a mental talk to myself and me coming to the realization that I had all the tools I needed to succeed and all I had to do was believe in myself and to know who I could be. So that’s what I really wanted to emphasize to people that no matter the hardships they go through, as long as you know who you are and what you can do, you can become it.
TRGB MEDIA: Now is this part of your EP/Album or do you have an EP or album out?
YQ DREAMS: The ‘Could Be’ is not apart of an EP or album and I don’t think it will be. The music and the way I am, I’m always evolving and growing, so if I was to use anything that was a few months old it would kind of make me feel weird, but I do want to put out a project by the end of this year. It’s going to take a lot of me focusing and coming up with a strategic plan for it before I do that.
TRGB MEDIA: Because it’s the new year, do you have any new projects you are working on?
YQ DREAMS: I currently have a single called “What do You Mean” and this single is me showing versatility and the fact that I just don’t make motivational and inspiring music, like I’m versatile and I can make anything. I’m basically going to be sitting behind the single and see what it does.
TRGB MEDIA: As a music artist, where do you see yourself five years from now?
YQ DREAMS: Five years from now, I see myself in a position exactly where I was. Music is my gateway; I hope to one day start something with people living with mental health and a single parent household like me that doesn’t have anybody to talk to; they have to keep all their problems to themselves. So that’s my long-term goal. And I don’t believe I will be there in five years, but I do believe I will be on the right path to it and that I’ll be making a difference in a positive way.
TRGB MEDIA: Within your music career, have you faced any challenges so far?
YQ DREAMS: Oh yes, of course. There are challenges of people not respecting their craft, not wondering why you have gotten the things you have gotten and why they have it, so I’m still human at the end of the day. These are all things that affect me. ”
TRGB MEDIA: For someone who wants to become an artist like yourself, what advice would you give them?
YQ DREAMS: Probably my biggest advice would be is to not let the things of others portray you what you do in your life. For instance, a lot of people always have a lot to say and I realized that people will try to hold you back or will try to put you down just because they aren’t where you are and they are insecure with themselves. You can’t let other people’s insecurities become your insecurities. I would definitely say protect your space, stay focused and if you do feel in your heart that you have a passion for it then continue at it and see where it takes you.
TRGB MEDIA: Now how can people connect with you?
YQ DREAMS: My social media handles is @yqdreams on everything including all streaming platforms. I have a website that I’m working on and will be updated with new music and everything else.
Thank you Milan Mobley of Umanagement Entertainment Public Relations for allowing TRGB Media to interview your client YQ Dreams.
