[MOVIE REVIEW] MADEA FAMILY FUNERAL

Tyler Perry has yet done it again in the last and farewell film featuring Madea “Madea Family Funeral” Everyone loves the character that Perry has made since his debut movie “Dairy of a Mad Black Woman” Madea had no filter and will definitely tell it like it is no matter what.  She is like the mother you never had…except for the violence and foul mouth, but who doesn’t love a dose of laughter for your soul?!

“Madea Family Funeral” is definitely filled with jokes and laughter for days.  Perry has added his other characters from “Madea Boo” movie such as Hattie and Aunt Bam.  Of course everyone knows Joe, Madea’s brother who she constantly jokes on.  The plot of the story isn’t really all that difficult as it lies around family secrets.  Doesn’t that sound familiar? Well in another one of Perry’s movies “Why Did I Get Married,” it revolved around drama and secrets as well and the family finds a way to fix everything.    In this particular movie, the movie was suppose to be about the anniversary of the parents, but when Perry, Uncle Joe, Hattie and Aunt Bam discovers a dark secret and everything goes south in a freak accident.  Even though Perry reportedly stated that this is the last movie with Madea in it, I believe she will probably come back.  Perry has captured every problem and solution with this movie with great actors and actresses to take on their roles.  Although this wasn’t Perry’s best movie compared to other ones he has directed and wrote, what kept this one in the top three for box office ratings were the jokes!  The plot needed a little bit more work since it’s not really a good one and it has been used before in some of his other films.  Perry could definitely do a much better job with the plot.  What made the movie special were the characters as well.  Without Joe, Heathrow (new character) Hattie and Aunt Bam, the movie would have drowned underneath other movies that recently came out.

I still recommend people to go see the movie because it is Perry’s last Madea movie and because he always creates and adds good characters that can pull their own weight when it comes to acting.

‘Luke Cage’ Actor Elijah Boothe talks about His Journey as an Actor and Next Moves

Marvel’s Luke Cage Actor, Elijah Boothe is no stranger when it comes to the acting field.  His breakout in the acting industry came in 2016.  He has acted alongside Moonlight Actor Mahershala Ali and others.  Elijah has earned significant parts in movies and tv series such as “Golden Boy,” “Coin Heist,” “Are We There Yet (the tv series), and “Blue Bloods” Besides acting, Elijah has been featured in international magazines such as Vogue, WWD and W Magazine.

How did you get started in the acting business? Did you go to school for it?

I sort of fell into the business at the age of 10 when I auditioned for The Lion King on Broadway and I’ve been doing it ever since.

Let’s talk about your character “Young Cottonmouth” on Luke Cage.  How did you land the role?

The audition process for me was very short actually. Of course, anything Marvel is super confidential, so I had no idea that it was Luke Cage initially. Casting called me in to read once, and the rest is history.

Were there any amazing people you met on set while filming?

Absolutely! Both the cast and crew were a blast to work with. Cheo Hadari Coker (Creator), Jeph Loeb (Producer), Akela Cooper (Producer), and Andy Goddard (Director) were all amazing to work with! They gave me full reign to create who I wanted Young Cottonmouth to be which was amazing. Also getting to work with the legendary Alfre Woodard, Latanya Jackson, and share the same character as Oscar Award Winner Mahershala Ali was mind blowing. I made sure to be a sponge and soak up all the knowledge I could from these veterans.

What keeps you motivated and inspired doing what you love doing the most?

So many things but mainly my test and trials. My supporters definitely keep me going as well.

Out of all the films and tv shows you have been a part of, which ones has been your favorite and why?

I loved working on A Rainy Day In New York with Selena Gomez and Timothee Chalamet. I also had a blast working on Golden Boy on CBS with Greg Berlanti. Everyone was so amazing and gave me so much knowledge that I still carry with me to this day.

Do you have any upcoming projects coming up that you are able to discuss?

I start filming a new series soon called The Line Up alongside Isaiah Washington and La La Anthony. The Line Up is a story about various women who use their street smarts, wit, and sexual energy to dominate men. The women in this story know how to use what they have to get them what they want, and that’s money, power, and respect. I play Crit on the show.

Where do you see yourself five years from now? Ten years from now?

Honestly, I just want to tell real stories that evoke change and inspire. I definitely see myself directing, writing, and producing very soon.

If you weren’t an actor, what would you be doing?

If I wasn’t acting I would definitely be singing full time. I grew up singing in the church so music will always be my first love.

Are you a big Marvel fan? If so, what are some of your favorite characters and movies?

I’m obsessed with Marvel which is why I freaked out when I found out I got the role on Luke Cage! WAKANDA FOREVER! Black Panther is definitely my favorite character of all time.

What’s next for Elijah Boothe?

I’ll be releasing my EP at the end of the year produced by Knxwledge

I’ll Take the ‘Popular Category’ for $200 Alex!

Every year when the Academy Oscars come around, lots of people are trying to figure out which category movies, actresses and actors should be placed in as well as directors and writers.  It’s a very big deal in case you didn’t know especially in the film industry.  Imagine an actor or actress who has worked their butt off for the last couple of years as what they do and not get nominated.  Well let me rephrase that, it’s not all about who doesn’t gets nominated, because in the end, every actor, actress, director and writer are winners!

But let’s talk about the new category that has had some people in anger and talking.  The Oscars decided to add a new category to the list and that is the “most popular picture”  Seriously what do you guys feel about that new category being added?  Do you think that it is fair since they already have “Best picture” category added? There has been a lot of great movies so far this year with Black Panther kicking the numbers straight out the ball park with the gross numbers they have been receiving.  Ryan Coogler definitely deserves an Oscar for this movie!

According to http://www.vulture.com, here are some of the top good movies so far in 2018:

  1. Black Panther
  2. Paddington 2
  3. The First Purge
  4. Blockers
  5. Isle of Dogs
  6. Annihilation
  7. Leave No Trace
  8. Love after Love
  9. Sorry to Bother You
  10. Won’t You Be My Neighbor?

Other movies that appeared on other sites such as ‘Rotten Tomatoes’ and ‘Parade’ had some of the same movie adding “A Quiet Place” “Love Simon” and “The Incredibles 2”

So the next Oscar should be very exciting especially with the new category.
